Within the framework of the Man and the Biosphere program, it has established a network of biosphere reserves that aims to protect nature while preserving human activity throughout the planet. The goal of this intergovernmental scientific program is to improve the relationship between people and the environment

UNESCO's programmes contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals defined in the 2030 Agenda, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015.
